Nylon Lanyards and its history
Nylon is one of the most popular choices when it comes to lanyards. This classic material is known for its strength and versatility. If you are considering purchasing lanyards then nylon is definitely a fabric that you should consider. Nylon lanyards are cheap and durable.
Nylon has been heralded as the miracle fiber. The very first attempts to create a man made fiber were done in 1664. These experiments were carried out by a naturalist. Robert Hooke was the first to recognize that it was possible to create cloth from man made materials.
This realization would not become a reality until some two hundred years later. In 1931 the DuPont Company began researching what they called giant molecules. The research was headed by a gifted chemist by the name of Wallace Carothers. Wallace and a group of gifted scientists (who were dubbed the dubbed Purity Hall) were able to produce a small amount of a polymer which they called poly-amide 66. This material had an extremely high meting point and was difficult to manipulate. They continued to experiment and eventually produced what we call nylon.
Nylon was an extremely well received product when it went into commercial production. One of the very first applications of nylons was as a substitute for silk. Ladies were extremely grateful for the creation of nylon because it was used as a substitute for silk stockings. Nylons were much cheaper and easier to obtain than silk ones. They were also stronger and lasted longer.
The DuPont Company claims that when they selected the name nylon is was a fluke. They chose the 'on' portion because both cotton and rayon ended with these two letters. The nyl portion of the name was simply a random selection and had to meaning. In one press release the DuPont Company explained that they had wanted to call the material no-run but they felt that this name was misleading and decided against it.
Lanyard manufactures choose to use this versatile material for a number of reasons. It is inexpensive easy to work with and can be dyed in any color. Additionally from a customer’s point of view it is long lasting and can be both machine washed and dried.
Nylon lanyards can be customized to meet the exact specifications set out by the customer. They can be plain or printed. They can be silk screened or they can be used in the dye sublimation process. The tight weave of the material makes them ideal for imprinting with photographic quality images.
Lanyards which are made of nylon are strong enough to be used as water bottle carriers and yet the material is smooth and will not irritate the skin of a person. Additionally, if a buyer chooses they can be made using the safety breakaway feature. This type of lanyard can be used with any kind of attachment that a customer might desire.
The nylon lanyards are one the best lanyards on the market and yet they are also one of the least expensive.
